How to shatter the “language-learning plateau” and reach that elusive conversational level of Italian: WITHOUT opening a single textbook or downloading any apps!
We’ve taken 4 years worth of feedback to create Il Metodo Contestuale: the approach that has helped thousands of students learn conversational Italian!
Have you been learning Italian and maybe even following our videos, but feel like…
- No matter how many hours you put in, you’re still not where you want to be
- It’s still hard for you to understand native Italian speakers
- You’re still not comfortable talking in everyday speaking situations
If the answer to any of these is YES, then what you are about to read will be extremely important…
Because over the next few paragraphs, you’ll discover how you can use Il Metodo Contestuale to become conversational in Italian, PLUS…
- How to comprehend the spoken language (rather than the textbook language)
- The single most important thing to study when learning a new language
- Why traditional courses, textbooks, and apps are actually HURTING your ability to speak
Before we get into the details though, let us tell you that…
It is NOT your fault if you cannot speak!
It’s the traditional approach to learning that is all backwards.
Sure, languages are filled with words, phrases, prepositions, and verbs that you should know.
But even if you spent a decade memorizing every grammar rule and every word in an Italian dictionary…
We guarantee that you still wouldn’t be able to put together conversational Italian.
In fact, this is exactly where most students (and teachers) go wrong:
They dedicate mind-numbing amounts of time to grammar and conjugating verbs…
Which all ends up doing nothing to improve your ability to actually speak the language.
The worst part is… this horrible approach can drag on for years!
For example, many college students take up to 4 semesters (sometimes more) of Italian, a total of two years worth of time…
Yet when they finish, they still struggle to put together basic sentences.
We’ve been trying to figure out why this happens…
Because think about it for a second…
How is it that young children become fluent in speaking their native languages…
When they don’t spend any time with textbooks, flashcards, and apps?
After years of teaching Italian online, we’ve finally figured it out.
And we’ve taken the same methods that children use to become fluent in Italian…
Then combined them with our own learning and teaching experiences to discover…
The fastest way to become conversational in Italian!

Ciao! We’re Graziana and Rocco, an Italian couple with a passion for languages.
We’ve spent the past four years helping thousands of people all over the globe learn Italian through our website and YouTube channel LearnAmo (now at over 200,000 subscribers!).
Between YouTube and our website, we’ve created over TWO THOUSAND HOURS worth of learning content.
Cultures and languages aren’t just online hobbies for us though, it’s what we’ve dedicated our lives to…
We’ve both graduated from the University of Bari with degrees in Linguistic and Intercultural Mediation and we also have a Master’s Degree in Language, Society and Communication from the University of Bologna (with the highest marks possible!).
And between the both of us we speak four foreign languages fluently: English, Spanish, French and German!
We know that books, apps, and regular courses don’t help you speak because we’ve tried them all ourselves.
What we discovered, is that…
All the traditional approaches to language learning forget one crucial element…
And without it, you’ll be spending at least 10x the amount of time learning how to speak…
So, what is this element?
CONTEXT!
Now it might sound obvious, but without studying how the language is actually spoken in everyday life, you’ll never get very far.
Learning languages through context is the only way to have conversations in Italian fluently…
So to help you speak Italian, we’ve put in months of work into developing…
Italiano in Contesto: the course based on il Metodo Contestuale!
Il Metodo Contestuale helps you become conversational faster and makes learning Italian fun and easy.
It works simply by immersing you in conversation, the same way you’d hear it on the streets of Italy!
This way, you’ll be able to speak in different everyday situations you’d actually find yourself in.
Sometimes when listening to a native speaker, it really can sound like it’s just gibberish coming out of their mouth…
But by using Il Metodo Contestuale, your brain will get used to how Italian flows in normal conversation.
So spoken Italian will no longer sound fast and confusing…
And instead of locking up, not knowing what to say when you try to speak…
…or constantly having to ask others “puoi ripetere più lentamente, per favore?”…
You’ll understand exactly what people say, even if they speak fast…
AND know how to respond to them with confidence (and have fun doing it!).
It is NOT a traditional course!
Italiano in Contesto doesn’t have tedious grammar exercises, verb conjugation charts, or flashcard-like memorization modules.
Because not only does that stuff take way too long to get you even the smallest results…
It’s flat out boring!
Instead, you’ll immerse yourself in hours of fun, relaxed, and natural dialogue, in all the situations of daily life here in Italy.
We’ll be walking along with you, using only the spoken language…
And helping you get to know how it changes (and how to use it yourself!) depending on the context of the conversation.
Whether you’re stopping for gas during a road-trip…
…or out at dinner ordering the perfect pizza and a beer…
…or even opening a bank account after moving to Italy…
Through each of the situations we place you in…
You’ll understand exactly how to speak Italian in day-to-day life!
Italiano in Contesto consists of 10 modules, each based around a video lesson that places you in the middle of a realistic conversation:

4: Car Dealership / Rental Agency

What we teach you is NOT just a list of words and phrases needed to get by in each situation…
For example, in the café / bar lesson, you won’t just learn how to order a coffee…
You’ll also discover:
- The different types of breakfasts Italians have (and how to order them yourself)

- How to ask for what else they might have instead
- How to say you’re not interested in those alternatives…
- How to respond to “al banco o in sala?”, and what these choices mean!
- The common way to ask how much you have to pay (hint: it’s NOT “quanto costa?”)
- What is l’Aperitivo Completo
- How to make an Italian classic: l’Aperol Spritz!

Frequently Asked Questions
1. How do I know if Italiano in Contesto is for me?
Since the video lessons themselves are done in Italian, we would say a low-intermediate level is a good starting point…
But even if you’re a little less confident in your Italian, we’ve made Italiano in Contesto accessible across all skill levels by adding both Italian and English subtitles to all videos, and by adding text explanations for each video that review the key phrases and concepts.
Italiano in Contesto is also for you if you have a higher skill level and can understand the language well, but want some experience with how it’s actually spoken during the daily life of an Italian!
2. How would a couple of YouTubers/Bloggers know how to build a good course?
Ok, ok, we get this question a lot. And we can see why.
But what if we told you that, not only do we have years of experience teaching Italian online, both through YouTube and private Skype lessons…
But we have the formal, academic credentials too!
We have both graduated from the University of Bari with degrees in Linguistic and Intercultural Mediation, and with the highest marks possible.
We also have a Master’s Degree in Language, Society and Communication from the University of Bologna (again, with the highest marks possible).
Teaching Italian online isn’t something we just decided to do one day…
It’s the result of years and years of study and hard work into the subject we’re passionate about!
So you can trust that we’re not just a couple of online course creators…
We’ve been through it all when it comes to studying languages. From years of both formal and informal study, we know what works.
And as proof… Today we speak 4 foreign languages fluently: English, Spanish, French and German!
With Italiano in Contesto we’ve taken everything that works (and avoided everything that doesn’t) from both our online and academic careers!
3. What makes Italiano in Contesto different from watching your YouTube videos?
With YouTube, we make our videos a little bit at random.
One week it could be a grammar lesson, the next it could be a speaking exercise…
Sometimes rather than focusing on the language, we give you little bits of insight into Italian culture!
So what makes Italiano in Contesto different?
Every single lesson is designed with one goal in mind…
To get you familiar with real-world Italian, how you’d hear it on the streets of Italy.
And to get you familiar with what it’s like to converse in different day-day-day situations, so that if you were dropped in Italy tomorrow, you’d be able to get by like a local!
We wanted to create a single place you can go to get immersed in Italian and work towards the goal of becoming conversational.
Italiano in Contesto is the result!
4. What if I have questions about the lessons once I start going through them?
Directly attached at the bottom of each module is a comment section where you can ask any questions you might have.
We have some students ask us questions directly about a lesson…
And sometimes we get comments from students who might want to chat about something else altogether!
No matter the question, comment, or concern you have: we’re here to help!
Once you post a question or comment we’ll get notified and will respond directly to you as soon as possible.
We want to make sure you’re always moving forward!
