Italian Dirty Words and Expressions!
Merda! = indicates something going wrong
More polite synonym =Accidenti!
Example:
Merda! Ho dimenticato le chiavi in casa! (Shit, I forgot my keys at home!)
Accidenti! Ho dimenticato le chiavi in casa! (Man, I forgot my keys at home!)
Che palle! = indicates something that bothers or bores us
More polite synonym = Che noia!
Example:
Che palle la lezione di geografia! (Bollocks, geography class)
Che noia la lezione di geografia! (What a bore, geography class)
Che culo! = indicates that someone got lucky
More polite synonym = Che fortuna!
Example:
Francesco ha trovato una fidanzata bellissima! Che culo! (Francesco got a beautiful girlfriend! Lucky bastard!)

Rompipalle = indicates a person that bothers you, annoys you
More polite synonym = Rompiscatole
Example:
Mio fratello è un vero rompipalle! Mi fa sempre gli scherzi! (My brother is such a ballbuster! He always plays tricks to me)
Mio fratello è un vero rompiscatole! Mi fa sempre gli scherzi! (My brother is such a nuisance! He always plays tricks to me)
Fa cagare = indicate that you don’t like something
More polite synonym = fa schifo, è brutto
Example:
Questo piatto fa cagare! Non è stato cucinato da uno chef! (This dish is shit! It wasn’t cooked by a chef)
Questo piatto fa schifo! Non è stato cucinato da uno chef! (This dish sucks! It wasn’t cooked by a chef)
Cazzata = indicates something stupid or a lie
More polite synonym = stupidaggine, bugia, fesseria, sciocchezza
Example:
Giuseppe ha fatto una cazzata: ha guidato senza mettere la cintura! (Giuseppe did a bullshit: he drove without seat belt)
Giuseppe ha fatto una stupidaggine: ha guidato senza mettere la cintura! (Giuseppe did a no-brainer: he drove without seat belt)
Cazzo = literally, masculine reproductive tract. It is often used by Italians, both as swearing, exlamation (just like “Merda!” but even stronger), and to emphasize something inside the sentence
More polite synonym = cavolo
Example:
Cazzo! Non ricordo dove ho parcheggiato! (Fuck! I can’t remember where I parked)
Cavolo! Non ricordo dove ho parcheggiato! (Man! I can’t remember where I parked)
Voglio quel cazzo di quaderno! (I want that fucking notebook)
Voglio quel cavolo di quaderno! (I want that stupid notebook)
Coglione = insult addressed to someone who doesn’t immediately understand or that bothers us with pointless pressure
More polite synonym = idiota, cretino, stupido
Example:
Ancora non hai capito quello che voglio dire? Ma sei coglione? (Haven’t you understood what i mean yet? Are you a prick?)

Vaffanculo / Va’ a cagare = It is used to invite someone to stop doing something or to leave
More polite synonym = vai a quel paese!
Example:
Mi stai dicendo che non hai fatto quello che ti ho chiesto? Ma vaffanculo! (Are you telling me you didn’t do what I asked? Fuck off!)
Mi stai dicendo che non hai fatto quello che ti ho chiesto? Ma vai a quel paese! (Are you telling me you didn’t do what I asked? Get lost)
Puttana / Troia = literally, prostitute. Used to offend a woman seen as a cheater or with loose morals
More polite synonym = buona donna, prostituta
Example:
Che puttana! Mi ha tradito con il suo capo! (Such a whore! She cheated on me with her boss!)
Che buona donna! Mi ha tradito con il suo capo! (What a bee sting! She cheated on me with her boss!)
Scopare = having a sexual intercourse with someone
More polite synonym = fare l’amore
Example:
Mio fratello ha scopato con la sua migliore amica. (My brother banged his best friend)
Mio fratello ha fatto l’amore con la sua migliore amica. (My brother made love with his best friend)
Stronzo = insult addressed to a vicious despicable person
More polite synonym = cattivo, malvagio, insensibile
Example:
Sei uno stronzo! Non mi hai aiutato quando ne ho avuto bisogno! (You’re an asshole! You didn’t help me when I needed it!)
Sei un insensibile! Non mi hai aiutato quando ne ho avuto bisogno! (You’re insensitive! You didn’t help me when I needed it!)
Figata = it is used to indicate something that is amazing, awesome or funny
More polite synonym = bellezza, incanto, divertimento, spasso, forte, mitico
Example:
Che figata! Sono entrata nella cabina dei piloti dell’aereo! (Cool! I came in airplane’s pilots cabin)
Che spasso! Sono entrata nella cabina dei piloti dell’aereo! (Awesome! I came in airplane’s pilots cabin)
Figa = literally, feminine reproductive tract (vulgar form). But it is used to refer to a particularly attractive and sexy girl (it exists also with the masculine form)
More polite synonym = ragazza bella, attraente, sexy
Example:
Ho appena conosciuto una figa pazzesca! (I’ve jut met a smokin hot)
Ho appena conosciuto una ragazza sexy pazzesca! (I’ve just met a sexy girl)
